Obituary of Robert F. Katona Jr.
Robert "Rob" Frank Katona, Jr was a kind an compassionate man who touched the lives of many. He left this world suddenly on March 5, 2023 at the too young age off 55.
He was born to Robert and Lauren Katona on October 4, 1967. After graduating from Pequannock Township High School, he tried his hand at delivery driver and warehouse manager before landing at what would become his home for the next 35 years, ShopRite Liquors of Lincoln Park.
Here he honed his acerbic wit and comedic timing on his unsuspecting coworkers. The stories he would tell would leave you breathless with laughter.
But it wasn't all fun and games, he was a man who worked as hard as the day is long. Above and beyond was his nature, he was loyal and trustworthy, you could always count on Rob. His coworkers were just as much his family and he loved them all.
He was a man of many passions. The Dallas Cowboys (I know), making amazing meals paired with the perfect potent potable, photographing nature, sunsets in particular, being out in the woods around a campfire or out on a lake with a pole in the water. And like his father, he loved all creatures great and small, a purring cat being on the top of his list. A movie buff, always quoting lines, a history buff, who long to serve but was unable, a former music buff, deafened after 35 years of muzak and the bad lite FM you find in the world of retail.
He was well read, well rounded and well loved by all. And he will be dearly missed.
Rob is predeceased by his grandparents Britt and Edith Merwarth and Frank and "Minnie" Katona, and by his father Robert Sr. He is survived by his mother Lauren, his sister Jeanie Wehnert, his aunt Brittany Smith, his cousins Joe, Rachel, Mark, Ryan and Riley Smith, Edward and Barbara Katona, Cindy Atkins ,Mark Katona and Kathy Morawski and by his nieces and nephews Brian and Brianna Wehnert, Andrew Cabrera, Lisamarie Wehnert and Arabella Cabrera, and David Wehnert and Ana Garcia.
Visitors are welcome at Keri Funeral Home in Lincoln Park on Friday, March 10th from 4pm to 8pm.
