My deepest condolences. Mr. McLain was my band teacher in high school and have the fondest memories of his class. His enthusiasm and engagement with his student and peers was amazing. I remember there was a time where we spent days making a cardboard pirate ship and decorations and props which we then used to storm the principals office looking for the "booty".
Mr. McLain will always have a very special place in my heart.

Mr. McClain was a truly inspirational teacher. He made class fun and worked to find the best in all of us. He is one of the reasons I am a band teacher today. He will continue to live on in the students whose lives he has touched over the years. My condolences to his family. He will be missed.

I'm so very sorry to hear of Mr. McLains passing. He was a wonderful teacher. I had the pleasure of playing clarinet for four fun years with him. Everyday was a new story or some crazy shenanigans! He loved his family, and made that known to all of his students. I'm so sorry for your loss. He will be missed I'm sure. Thinking of you during this difficult time.

My condolences to his family and loved ones. One of my favorite memories from high school band was when we all dressed up like pirates at the end of the school year one day, and we stormed the front office and demanded the booty from the secretaries that someone hid. It was such a funny event, and band was always a lot of hard work but also so much laughter! Thank you for sharing him with his students for so many years. Sending you peace during this difficult time.

Dear McLain Family
I have been with Kinnelon Police Dept for 27 years and over that time I have met many people. I must say Bob was one of my favorites. I would see him at school and we would tell stories, jokes and just enjoy the conversation
I had just recently seen his story on the Deborah website and truly meant to reach out to him. I'm sorry I didn't get the chance and deeply regret it. He was one of a kind and a person I was very fond of knowing. All my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time

I am so sorry for this loss to family and friends. My connection with Bob was purely musical. All the years he was in Kinnelon I was the band director in Mountain Lakes. Our paths constantly crossed over the years and we always found something to laugh about.
Peace to those in his circle

Mr. McLain, as I knew him, was my high school band teacher. Already on his good list, because I was a trombone player, he taught me to love playing music with a group. He made everything fun and we had so many hilarious times in band. A lot of my fondest high school memories took place in the band room. Somehow, he made being a band geek cool and seemed to really enjoy our antics and our music-making (even if it wasn't always good because we were laughing into our mouthpieces or pulling some dumb prank.) I still teach fellow trombone players the secret "trombone handshake" and I will continue! I went on to play trombone in college in three bands and I still play trombone! What a good man we lost. Prayers to his family who will miss him so much.

I was very sad to hear of his passing. I only was a student of his for 2 years at Lenape, but they were 2 years I never forgot. You made the world a happier place with your humor. Now you can bring your music to the angels. Slide over, we have another trombone sitting in.

To Mrs. McLain and Katie,
I was a Choir student that became a marching band student by his "force" my sophomore through senoir years 89-91. I remeber when little Katie would come visit because he was too busy with us to go home.
My junior year my dad had a massive stroke and was very bad for a while, Mr. McLain and Lag would drive me to see him at Chilton whenevwr I needed to be there. That is when I learned the Music dept at KHS was truly FAMILY. I have never forgotten what they did for me and loved that we all called them "Dad McLain" and Grandpa Lag even though Lag was younger.
I loved all the music dept trip we took to Disney World, Canada, DisneyLand and Virginia.
Thank you Bonnie and Katie for sharing him with all us other kids in his life!
May he rest in the Sweetest Peace.
Love Stephanie Leaver Kaulfers Class of 1991

Bob was a one of a kind guy! He was always ready to make you laugh- with a personality that was one that I will never see again! He could converse about how horrible the Jets are one second- and then debate someone else (definitely not me) on the historical importance of Earth Wind and Fire while playing the trombone with his feet! A true renaissance man! I will miss him dearly. RIP brother!!! (Ps- I know St. Peter let you go in through the side door- I heard he does that for all the good guys!

So sorry to hear of the passing of Bob. We worked together at Kinnelon as well as driving the bus together. He had a great sense of humor and we had many discussions together. Also enjoyed the trip he put together. His greatest love was his Bonnie and Kate. His humor, compassionand presence will be missed
