Obituary of Elaine Simmons

Elaine Bernice Simmons, born on August 12, 1941, in Harlem, NY, to Mearlon Simmons, was called home by God on November 13, 2024.

Elaine was educated in Catholic schools, attending St. Mark the Evangelist School in Harlem, NY, and later the all-girls school Washington Irving in New York City. She furthered her education at Bronx Community College and Queens Community College, earning an Associate’s Degree in Education.

Elaine worked as a Supervisor for the State Liquor Authority for 20 years before retiring early due to a work-related injury.

An avid reader, Elaine kept an extensive library in her home filled with encyclopedias and books of many varieties. She shared her love of knowledge by gathering neighborhood children and taking them to the library. Her selflessness and kindness touched everyone she met, as she consistently put the needs of her family and friends before her own.

Elaine was preceded in death by her mother, Mearlon Mae Simmons. She leaves to mourn her son, Apostle Randolph Simmons (Sheila); her daughters Brinna Buffaloe-Hamlet (Devon) and Brenda Buffaloe; her brother, Bernard Simmons; her grandchildren, Reneasha Simmons, Regina Simmons, Chantia Kelley, Chanel Simmons,Austin Simmons, Chanteya Hamlet, Denise Buffaloe, Devon Buffaloe and Dominque Buffaloe; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great-grandchildren, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Keri-Lozito Funeral Home, 125 Main Street, Lincoln Park, NJ. Cremation will be private.

Elaine’s warmth, generosity, and devotion to her family and community will forever be cherished by all who knew her.
