I have many great memories of Poppy - Christmas eve, sitting in his packed living room eating food and opening presents.
Watching road runner at his house while eating cheeze-its because I wasnt allowed to at home.
Playing chess and him letting me win.
Walking around the woods and the property with him, listening to him tell me about the groundhogs he had seen and the history of the farm.
Mowing the lawns with him every Saturday - he would always mow the hardest parts and let me ride on the comfortable mower.
Drinking Ginger ale and eating Grandma's famous chocolate stripped cookies, kept in the fridge.
His incredible collection of old things, ( thats how I viewed them as a kid) made the reck room seem like an amazing time capsule, or some kind of museum, that I would always love to explore. ( it was always ice cold and freezing in there! )
All these memories combine into an amazing feeling of home every time I drive up that driveway, or turn the corner to see their house.
Poppy taught me to love nature, he taught me that the simple things matter and he made me proud of my family and history. Most of all his gentle and light hearted nature, combined with his impressive work ethic, will also set a president for how I want to live my life. I see so many of the same amazing qualities in my Dad, which I know were instilled by poppy.
I will miss you
