Obituary of Curtis H. Decker

Please share a memory of Curtis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Curtis (Curt) H. Decker, age 94, passed away peacefully on June 14th, 2024, with his wife Theresa at his side, after a long life filled with family and service.

Curt was born in 1929 in Little Falls, NJ, spending lazy summers at his grandparents' bungalow at Mohegan Lake. At age 19, Curt enlisted in the US army and was a combat mechanic in the Korean War. He was discharged honorably in 1952.

Following his military service, Curt began his career at Kearfott Corporation where he was a production supervisor for aerospace products. At Kearfott, Curt met Theresa, the love of his life, and they married soon after. They raised six children in Montville in the home they lived in for over 60 years. The family's Montville home had a large yard where Curt spent countless hours fulfilling his passion for gardening. Freshly picked flowers and vegetables were on the Decker table every summer.

In retirement, Curt and Theresa enjoyed traveling and spending time with their family. He took up golf and worked part-time at Sunset Valley golf club. He attributed some of his happiest memories in retirement to the 24 years he volunteered at St. Clare's Hospital in Denville.

Curt is survived by his wife of 70 years and his six children Linda, Kathy, Curt, Susan, Laurie, and Kimberly, 12 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

Heartfelt thanks go to the staff at Victoria Mews, where Curt and Theresa have called home for the past two years. Victoria Mews has provided comfort and support, as well as stimulating physical, artistic, and social activities.

A mass will be held on June 22nd at 11:00 AM at Saint Pius X Church in Montville, NJ. Following the mass, friends and family are welcome to celebrate Curt's life and share their favorite memories at Kimberly's home at 222 Upper Mountain Ave, Montclair, NJ, between 1-4 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Curt's memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
