Obituary of Marie LaNeve
Marie LaNeve (Bracchitta) passed peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2020 at age 88. She is now in eternal rest.
Born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey, she spent the last 21 years of her life in Lincoln Park and her summers at her home in Ortley Beach, New Jersey. She was born in September of 1931 to the late John and Carmela Bracchitta, who emigrated to the US from Santa Croce Camerina/Ragusa, Sicily. In 1953, she married Patrick LaNeve and had five children. She dedicated her life to her children, volunteering countless hours at Paterson Catholic Regional High School and working part-time to provide them with educational opportunities. She raised her children to be active and independent, and encouraged a close connection to family-including her relatives who lived abroad in Italy.
Marie and her husband Patrick loved to share football, sailing, and skiing with their children and grandchildren, among other activities. She also kept strong bonds with her friends and stayed close for over 70 years - sharing beach walks, theater and many intense scrabble and rummy cube games. She was fluent in Italian and enjoyed listening to opera.
Her time with her family and friends at her beloved "bungalow" in Ortley Beach was her most precious time. Her house was welcoming and open to all. Her "spot" on the beach will remain forever in the hearts and minds of her family and friends.
Predeceased by her husband Patrick (1990) and sister Sadie Boyko; she is survived by her clildren Ronald LaNeve (Jane), Geralyn LaNeve, Janice LaNeve Giannontonio (Bob), Gary LaNeve (Patrice) and Donna LaNeve Fortino (Raymond); her eight grandchildren Casey and Christopher LaNeve, Gabrielle Fortino, Patrick, Gregory (Kristamarie) and Paige LaNeve, Marissa and Robert Giannantonio, and nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was a devout Catholic with a strong sense of faith. Although we are saddened by her death, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace.
