Please share a memory of Pasqualina to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Pasqualina Carbone (nee Sapio) age 87, of Towaco, NJ, passed away on November 11, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Montella, Italy, Lina, who was known as “Mamma”, “Nonna”, “Zia Lina”, “Li”, “Comma’ Lina” and “Cara amica”, was an extraordinary woman - selfless, strong, kind, present, committed, sacrificial, industrious, principled, a woman of action not words, who lived a life of immutable truths, generosity of heart, open hospitality and singular focus on family; our North Star for all those in her orbit.

Be it growing up in Montella, Italy, emigrating to Egolzwil, Switzerland as a young woman in 1958, and later to the USA in 1973 with her husband and children to live in Jersey City, NJ and later to Towaco, NJ. Lina had a profound impact on all those she touched. Her family (and those lucky enough to enter her family’s universe) were the fortunate daily recipients of love, a living lab of practical skills from cooking, gardening, sewing, to advice on all things. Her understanding of philosophy, life, family, and the pursuit of nonmaterial happiness would be the envy of Socrates. She understood, and generously dispensed without judgement, the wisdom of family. For Lina, life wasn’t complicated - family, love, hard work, and the truth is all you need. Don’t be sad for her passing. Instead, remember her legacy, and when you need her, just look to the sky, and ask yourself what would Lina do?

Lina is survived by her loving husband Francesco Carbone with whom she shared 59 years of marriage, devoted mamma to Angela Carbone, Auris Vanderbilt and husband Steve, Edvige Glennon and husband Patrick; loving Nonna to Michael Joseph (predeceased), Angelica, Alex, Olivia, Aidan, Emmett, Ian, and Brendan, caring sister to Gerarda, Imperia, Concetta, & Rolando, and countless cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Michele and Marianna Sapio, and beloved brothers Salvatore and Alessandro.
