Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William A. von Hassel 90, a life long resident of Lincoln Park, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2016. Visiting will be at The Keri Memorial Funeral Home 125 Main Street Lincoln Park on Wednesday 2-4 & 6-8pm. Services will be on Wednesday at 7PM at the funeral home. Graveside Service with military honors will be on Thursday 12noon at Riverside Cemetery 1001 Route 166 Toms River, N.J. Everyone to meet at the cemetery. Born to German immigrants Adolph & Bertha von Hassel on December 3, 1925. Mr von Hassel recently celebrated his 90th Birthday surrounded by friends and family at the Lincoln Park Airport, one of his favorite places. Mr. von Hassel was a U.S. Army World War II veteran in Germany in the latter years of the was. Upon returning back to the US after the war, he went out to the Mid-West where he worked on the towboats moving cargo up and down the Illinois River. Returning back to the East Coast, Mr. von Hassel met his soon to be wife, Frances E. Veasey, and they married on May 9, 1953. Fascinated by mechanics, and an avid life-long tinkerer and inventor of all things mechanical, Mr. von Hassel worked for various companies through out his long career making the mechanically impossible, possible. Through his mechanical mind, he managed to find a way to design machines to fill soap detergent boxes, pills into blister packs, or place labels on oddly shaped bottles. It seemed there was nothing he couldn't do with mechanics. Mr. von Hassel is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Frances E. von Hassel (Veasey), his beloved cat Yogi, his two sons, William H. von Hassel of Deerfield, NH. and Glen A. von Hassel of Coatesville, Pa. Mr. von Hassel is also survived by his Brother George A. von Hassel, his wife Judith, both of Freehold, NJ, and nieces Kirsten von Hassel-Namini of Newton, MA, and Karena von Hassel-McEvoy DVM of Ithaca, NY. In Lieu of flowers donations, to The Alzheimer's Association, The Wounded Warrior Project or a Charity of your choice would be appreciated.
