Obituary of Angelo R Fernicola

Angelo Ralph Fernicola, 95, of Paterson, NJ, passed away Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015 at the Veterans Administration Community Living Center in Lyons, NJ. He was the husband of the late Ida Helen (Aurilia) Fernicola, whom he married Feb. 3, 1946 at Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church in Paterson. They were married for 63 years. Born in Polla, Italy, on Sept. 7, 1920, he was the son of the late Anthony V. and Luisa (Stabile) Fernicola. He was the owner/operator of R.A.F. Food Products in Paterson, until his retirement. He was a World War II Army veteran who served in all five campaigns of Europe as Military Police on motorcycle (named “Ida”) and Infantryman during D-Day Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a Disabled American Veteran, being injured during his service and losing sight in his left eye. He was a member of DAV and local VFW posts. He is survived by children: daughters, Patricia (Fernicola) Harsell of Lincoln Park, NJ; Susan (Fernicola) Kalan, wife of Charles Kalan, of Portsmouth, VA; son, Ralph A. Fernicola Jr. of Whippany, NJ; brother, Eugene V. Fernicola of Wayne, NJ; granddaughter: Lauren (Kalan) Munden, wife of Robert Munden, of Chesapeake, VA; great-granddaughters: Addison, Lydia and Paige Munden of Chesapeake. He was predeceased by siblings: brothers, Carmen Fernicola, Albert Fernicola; sister, Marie (Fernicola) Burchett. A service will be held Thursday, Oct. 15, at 10 a.m., at the Keri Funeral Home, 125 Main St., Lincoln Park, followed by interment at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa, NJ. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Contributions may be made in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org
