Charles R. “Chick” Spence, 82, of Pompton Plains, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 22, 2026.

Born in Kearny, New Jersey, Charles resided in Lincoln Park for more than 50 years before moving to Pompton Plains in 2024. He was a history teacher for the Allendale Board of Education for 30 years and retired in 1999. Throughout his career in education, he was a dedicated member of the New Jersey Education Association, the National Education Association, and the Allendale Education Association.

Charles was an avid hunter and a devoted animal lover who found great joy in the outdoors and in the companionship of animals.

He was the beloved husband of Catherine Spence (née Platt); dear brother of Carole Baird and the late Thomas Spence.

In accordance with his wishes, all services were private.
