Richard James Nehrbauer Obituary
Richard James Nehrbauer, of Long Valley, New Jersey, peacefully passed on April 28, 2026. Born on June 19, 1954 in the Village of Hastings-on-Hudson, New York to Sara and Nicholas Nehrbauer, Richard worked as an environmental engineer for 48 years with companies including Merck Inc., O’Brien & Gere, and Ramboll Engineering. Richard was known for his strong work ethic, level-headedness, and competitive spirit. He often impressed upon his children and grandchildren the importance of hard work with “You’re working for yourself now.”, an anecdote passed down by his father. Richard was a New York sports lover following the Mets, Jets, Rangers, and Knicks even in their many disappointing seasons. Later in life, he added Rutgers football and basketball to his favorite sports teams, the alma mater of his son in law, Steve, and newly accepted grandson, Matthew. As an avid reader, word puzzler, lover of classic board games, and golfer, Richard loved sharing his hobbies with his friends and family. He often shared that spending time together was better than any physical gift he could receive. Richard is survived by his wife, Carolyn, three daughters, Maggie and her husband, Steve, Sarah, and Patty and her husband, Brandon, four grandchildren, Matthew, Jack, Ryan and Layla, and three grand-pups, Andie, Drella, and Vira. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026 from 3pm to 7pm at the Keri-Lozito Funeral Home, 125 Main Street, Lincoln Park, New Jersey. Funeral Service at Keri-Lozito Funeral Home on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 10:30am. Interment, Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Autism Speaks, Special Olympics, and/or the Buffalo Pug & Small Breed Rescue in Buffalo, New York.
