Joan Rasa Obituary

Joan Rasa, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 5th, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on February 1st, 1940 in Scranton, PA, she lived a life rich with love, family, and simple joys.

She was the devoted wife of Joseph Rasa for 62 wonderful years. Having met in their youth, they built a strong and enduring partnership. Together, they raised three children: Joseph, Brian, and Christine. Her family grew to include six cherished grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of whom brought her immense happiness.

Joan treasured summers at the family shore house, where she watched generations play and grow, creating memories that will endure. She delighted in garage sale adventures, uncovering hidden treasures, and sharing stories with friends and loved ones. As a dedicated school aide at North Boulevard Elementary School in Pompton Plains, NJ, she found joy in nurturing children and formed lasting friendships with colleagues.

Deeply faithful, Joan was an active member of The First Reformed Church of Pompton Plains, NJ, where her kindness and service touched many lives. She is survived by her loving husband, Joseph Rasa; her children Joseph Rasa (Melissa Marino and daughters Taylor and Ashley), Brian Rasa (Laura Rasa) and Christine Tenore (Glenn Tenore); grandchildren Matthew Rasa (April Rasa), Nicole Rasa (fiancé Joseph DeMatteo), Ally Rasa (fiancé Dylan Lever), Joseph Rasa, Nicholas Tenore, and Jake Tenore; great-grandchild Caleb Rasa; and many dear friends and family including daughter-in-law Robyne Rasa.

A celebration of her life will be held at The First Reformed Church of Pompton Plains, NJ on Sunday,February 1st, 2026 at 1:30 PM, and for those out of town, the service will be live-streamed (https://firstreformedchurch.com/worship/special-services). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made inmemory of Joan to The Chilton Medical Center Foundation in Pompton Plains, NJ (https://www.atlantichealth.org/patient-resources/donate-volunteer#donate).

Joan will be deeply missed, but her warmth and legacy live on in all who knew her.
