John Frederick Sereno

John Sereno (“Jake”) passed away Thursday, December 4, 2025 after a short illness. He was 94. Born in Boonton to the late Michael and Lena (Aquilino) Sereno on June 22, 1931, he was a long-time resident of Pine Brook, settling here in 1960. John’s family was at the center of everything. He was a loving husband and was preceded in death by his wife Dolores Sereno (2013). He is survived by his children, Michael Sereno his wife Laura Sereno and Beth Sereno Dailey, two grandchildren Michael Joseph Sereno and Sean Matthew Dailey, as well as Matthew Dailey and Mana Paul. He had numerous nieces and nephews. John also truly loved his second “Parkway Drive” family.
As an United States Army veteran, John served with the rank of Corporal in the Korean War. As a research chemist, John’s work has been recognized through patents primarily in the area of anti-cancer agents.
John was an active member of St. Pius X R.C. Church in Montville. He served as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed woodworking, and taking trips each year with his family to ski resorts and the Jersey shore. He enjoyed woodworking, attending car shows, and his daily rides in one of his beloved convertibles.
As John was adamant that people gather to enjoy happy memories of his long life, a celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date. A private interment will follow at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Totowa. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his wife’s name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, New Jersey Metro.
