Juergen “Alex” Alexander Peter Lorenz, 91, of Newton, NJ passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025.

Juergen was born on March 5th, 1934 in Riga, Latvia to the late August and Wanda (Feyler) Lorenz and raised in Germany. He is preceded in death by his beloved older brothers Werner and Armin Lorenz.

Juergen immigrated to the United States in 1958, settling in East Orange, NJ when shortly after his arrival, he was drafted by the US Army. During his two-years of service, he was stationed in South Korea where he learned English from his fellow enlisted. After returning to the United States, he worked in the book binding profession, a career he began as a young man in Germany. He became a proud US citizen in 1964 and continued his work in the printing industry, celebrating over fifty years as a paper cutter and quality control inspector.

Juergen was a dedicated member of Schlaraffia Newarka, a German-speaking society with chapters around the world celebrating the German language, culture, humor, poetry, and beer. For over four decades, he was known by his fellow club members as Ritter Liberfix, later becoming vice-president of his chapter in Dover, NJ. Juergen loved photography, art, classical music, gardening, Japanese culinary & travel shows, and celebrating any occasion with a shot of “schnapps” and pickled herring.

Juergen is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Ute (Schmeding) Lorenz, his sister-in-law Lore and nephew, Kay Rethmeier of Lörrach, Germany. Juergen was the proud father of Tom Lorenz and his wife Karen of Denville, NJ, Marc Lorenz and his wife Jenna of Boonton, NJ, and Eric Lorenz and his wife Jessica of Brooklyn, NY.  “Opa” will be deeply missed by his treasured grandchildren, Kyle, Sean, Audrey, Dylan, and Miles.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial service on Saturday, October 4th 2025, from 11:00 am to 1:00pm at Keri-Lozito Funeral Home, 125 Main Street, Lincoln Park, NJ.
