It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Catherine “Cookie” Otero (formerly DeFranco), a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, who peacefully departed this life surrounded by love.
Born and raised in Paterson, NJ and currently residing in Toms River, NJ, Catherine was known for her warm smile, kind spirit, and deep devotion to her family. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with those she loved most, especially during family gatherings and cherished vacations with her beloved husband. Whether near or far, Catherine found beauty in every shared moment.
After retiring from her career as a Purchasing Agent, Catherine found joy in returning to her roots working at a local bakery, the very place where her journey in the workforce began. The aroma of fresh bread and sweet pastries brought back fond memories, and she delighted in serving her community with warmth and care.
Catherine also treasured the simple pleasures of life— especially her regular lunch dates with her neighbors, where laughter and friendship were always on the menu. She had a gift for making people feel seen, heard, and loved.
Catherine’s presence was a light in the lives of all who knew her, and her memory will be held close in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of sharing in her life.
