In Loving Memory of Katherine G. Strickland
Katherine G. Strickland, affectionately known as Kay, Mom, and Nana, passed away peacefully at home on July 07, 2025, at the age of 87. She is survived by the love of her devoted husband John, and their children: Sandy Nagahashi, Sharon Walsh. Susan Allison, and Jim Strickland.
Kay was born in Paterson, New Jersey, to James and Florence Karrer. A lifelong resident of Towaco, Kay and John built their home and raised their four children there, creating a warm and welcoming space for family and friends.
A woman of deep faith, Kay was a longtime member of Jacksonville Chapel, where she led the nursery ministry for many years. She also participated actively in Christian women’s groups, mentoring countless young women in their spiritual journeys with grace and compassion. She held neighborhood bible club in her home for the neighbor children spreading the gospel.
Kay’s greatest joy came from her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and adoring grandmother and great-grandmother. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren, attending their sporting events and school programs with pride and enthusiasm. Known for her hospitality, Kay had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and at home.
An accomplished cook with a particular talent for baking desserts, Kay also had a keen eye for fashion and a love of shopping. She enjoyed countless hours sewing and doing various crafts. She and John shared a passion for travel- whether cruising with their church community through Europe or exploring the country in their motorhome over the course of 30 years, forging friendships and creating memories along the way.
Kay is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, John Strickland; her children: Sandy (Stan) Nagahashi, Sharon (Jim) Walsh, Susan Allison (Steve), and Jim (Lisa) Strickland; ten cherished grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents, James and Florence Karrer, and her brother, John Karrer.
