Obituary of Thomas F Dalton

Thomas Francis Dalton, Jr., of Towaco, NJ, a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, and a former Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, passed away on October 15, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. Born July 20, 1924, in Edgewater, NJ, to Thomas F. Dalton Sr., and Katherine M. McCann, Tom attended All Hallows High School in New York City. He graduated from St. John's University in 1949, with a bachelor's of science degree in history. In 1955, Tom married Margaret Helena Doyle of Edgewater, NJ, and together they raised six children. Tom joined the Navy in 1942, and went on to serve in the Naval Reserve during the Korean War. After his time in the Navy, he began his career as a Special Agent for the FBI in Durham, NC. Following his 25 years of service in the Bureau, Tom joined the US Department of State as a Special Investigator. He retired from the Bureau of Diplomatic Security in 1999. Tom loved gardening, travel and the genealogy of his Irish ancestry, and in his retirement he went on to earn a certificate in beekeeping from Rutgers University. Most of all he loved his wife, his children and grandchildren, who brought him so much joy and kept him young in spirit. Tom is survived by his wife Margaret, and his children, daughters Frances and Patricia, sons Thomas, Matthew, William and Paul, his sister Catherine, as well as his six grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Dalton, and his brother, Arthur Dalton. Visiting will be at The Keri Memorial Funeral Home 125 Main Street, Lincoln Park on Thursday 2-4 & 7-9PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be officiated at St. Pius X Church, 24 Changebridge Road, Montville, NJ, at 10:30 AM, on Friday, October 18, 2013. A celebration of his life for family and friends will be held on a date to be at announced at the service.
